"I, like thousands of other boaters, used to think that where I bought my boat was not all that important. Having purchased jet skis and yacht class boats in the past, I knew there was just no getting around the bad experience that I was about to put myself through yet again. My boat buying experiences, years of experience buying cars taught me that all dealers were alike; when the tough problems arose, you’re ultimately on your own in a fight you can’t win. However, I now know that this couldn’t be further from the truth. From the moment I walked into Munson Ski & Marine, I was treated with respect. No pushy salesman, no hard sales tactics, no feeling that I was “prey.” Just guidance, assistance and information provided in a professional manner in “my time.” Having made my selection, what came next was a respectful negotiation of a fair price and a financial deal closing that was again simple, easy, respectful with no hard line “up sells” of the numerous available add-ons. I was able to select those additional necessities like extended warranties with none of profit gouging that most always accompanies this final stage of a boat or car purchase. As happens with all new boat and car sales, there are factory manufacturing issues that surface which require warranty service. My boat was no different. But what was in fact different and what ultimately I found to be even more important than the manufacturer of the boat (and we all know that one’s selection of boat manufacturer is both critical and directly connected to the enjoyment one obtains from boating), was the service department of Munson Ski & Marine. I was both surprised and delighted to know that I made the absolute correct decision in my dealer selection. In fact, I was patting myself on the back for this great selection even though in truth, I hadn’t researched dealers all that much before purchasing. One might say that I was just “lucky.” But what I found that happens at Munson is not luck at all. Its simply phenomenal customer service provided by a high integrity family that has surrounded themselves with a truly great team of employees. This level of service comes not only from those one would expect it from like the owners but it comes from the front desk to the folks that install shorestations to the folks that pull your boat around for pickups. Everyone works hard and truly cares about the customer, me! Even on the busiest of summer weekends when we’re all filled with anxiety about getting out boats back on to the water. Munson has it covered. I’d like to say that my experience comes simply from Munson’s warranty services, in/out service and winterization, all of which is fast, easy and tailored to the customer’s schedule and needs, me. However, as fate sometimes has it, bad things sometimes happen regardless of our attempts to control things. After last summer’s high water tables in Southern Wisconsin and what we later found out on our lake, someone tampering with the water gauge, the majority of our summer was spent idling with an imposed no wake limit. When the no wake was finally lifted at the end of the summer, we all rushed to maximize our enjoyment levels with our boats knowing that the end of boating for the season was almost upon us. Then it happened. Our boat, a relatively new Chaparral with only 50 hours on the Mag 350, while pulling a wakeboarder at 2300 rpm “blew its motor,” literally. (We later found out that it was a faulty connecting rod….it can happen to any motor…really no ones fault). Leaving us stranded in the lake at sunset with luckily one more boater on the lake to give us a tow back to our shorestation. A call to Munson in the morning gave a number of options including their willingness to “stop by” and pick up the boat! It wasn’t a problem for them and they could do it right away! How many times have you heard that from your car dealer? All I’ve ever heard is “call a tow truck” and we’ll look at it maybe next week. What happened next is really what defines great customer service. Knowing that the season was quickly ending and our limited time of boating enjoyment, Mary Jo Munson and here team disassembled the block, diagnosed the problem, negotiated a brand new replacement motor from Chaparral/Mercury all under full warranty, expedited the shipping and replaced the motor all within (2) weeks! If that’s not enough to convince a prospective buyer to choose Munson Ski & Marine for their boat and service, then the next act of kindness surely will. Empathizing with our situation, short boating experience, end of summer, boat in shop, Mary Jo out of the kindness of her heart (there’s just no warranty that I’m aware of that offers this service at any price), “loaned” my family a brand new ski boat until ours was repaired. Shock and appreciation are words that are just not strong enough for what we felt. Mary Jo and the Munson family literally turned a terrible situation into the best buying and service experience our family has ever had! Having responsibility for customer service in my own businesses, I often use my Munson experience as a training tool for my managers. The ability to turn bad situations regardless of the origin into positive experiences is an example of “world class customer service.” Something every American business should aspire to and practice. If we treat one another with respect, dignity and empathy throughout the sales and service cycles, we’d all be far more happy, successful and satisfied. I applaud and sincerely thank Mary Jo and the Munson family for their kindness and embodiment of great customer service. For anyone even dreaming of buying a boat, Munson Ski & Marine is the ONLY place to go to buy a boat or receive service. There are just no dealers that even come close! John F. I have not had the pleasure to deal with the sales department, however, when i do i can only think it would be inline with the other departments. "Hi Mary Jo, I just wanted to give you some feedback from my first time out at Wakeboard Wedneday. It was a great time! The guys were all helpful. At first it was a bit intimidating with all these young guys flying all over, but Steve made me feel comfortable out there. He taught me some simple little tricks that made me a heck of a lot better. I hope to get out there several more times before the end of the Summer. I talked to a friend of mine whose kids compete on the pro tour (juniors) and recommended that they come out and take a session or bring Steve out for a few hours. I also wanted to thank you and your staff for the great years that you have given me. You've made my skiing and boating seasons much more enjoyable. You all have been great to me - especially you, Teri, Mike, John, Greg, Steve, Matt, Adam and Jenny (and anyone else who I might have missed). You have a customer for life! "We were looking for a new boat and we just happened to stop by to see what was being offered by Chaparral. Our salesman was very knowledgeable and pleasant and we had a great experience. Adam Koleno took care of us on the purchase and on some subsequent warranty issues and everything was done very professionally.
